Ballard C. Boyd

Born in Kentucky and raised in Franklin, Tennessee, Ballard is the only son of Shelby and Michael Boyd.

He's grateful to have had years playing in the woods and creeks outside the subdivision that he grew up in, in spite of still largely being an "indoor kid", who loved rainy days because it meant he could stay inside and read books and play make-believe. He attended Emerson College in Boston, studying film production, and graduating magna cum laude in three and a half years.

After a brief three year stint living and working in Boulder, Colorado (which led to meeting Kelsey), Ballard moved to New York City in 2008 to pursue a directing career, specializing in comedy, commercials, and music videos.

Ballard currently works as a segment director and field producer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS. Find out more about his work, or join his mailing list at ballardcboyd.com.

The Proposal

On Friday, March 2nd, 2018, the night before their 10 year anniversary, Ballard came home from work, burst through the door and said, "Do you want to do something crazy?"

Kelsey, completely unaware, in pajamas and on the couch, slowly sat up and said, "Sure?"

Ballard came over to the floor, pulled out a box from his bag and opened it. He asked, multiple times because he was so nervous, if she would marry him and Kelsey merely declared, "YES!"

Within the box was a small gold wire ring to signify his commitment.

What Kelsey didn't know was that he also had a gorgeous diamond from his family's business without a setting for her to decide a) if she wanted to keep it and b) if she did keep it, choose whatever setting she desired. Super smart move!

She chose to keep the diamond and place it into a simple but modern bezel setting, but it did take a week to find a jeweler and get it set.

On March 9th they went to the jeweler together to officially make it official and shared the news on social media a few days later.

HOORAY!
